anyone tell me how to replace just the seam. not 2 total planks. ive watched all the youtube videos. they only somewhat help. i can do everything except cut the pieces straight thats got to come out. anyone have any ideas. that laminate is not even a 1/4 in thick. i dont have enough matching planks to do both pieces thats damaged. so im just wanting to replace the seam with like a 10 inch piece insert.

Not sure if I understand...I'm guessing you have some damage that falls directly on a seam and effects 2 planks, you want to cut out a section of each piece and patch with one piece correct? You do understand that unless the grain/pattern of your patch piece is extremely similar to that which it will lay next to, it will probably stand out more than the original damage, not to mention if the seam is fairly noticeable to begin with, this will jump out at you as well...

anyways, this is what I would attempt if going your route...

take a piece of your patch plank/panel and use it to determine the depth to set your circular saw to, set it a hair less so you don't cut into your under-layment. Now tape the bottom plate of your saw with masking tape to protect the finish on the flooring, use some double sided tape to hold a straight edge to the floor set at the required distance from your saw's blade...make your cuts for all four sides stopping short on all of the ends. Use a sharp chisel to finish the corner cuts, take a razor knife to finish cutting out the remainder{hair width left behind} of the piece, then measure and cut/fit/attach your patch.

if I'm way off base{happens to me all the time lol} pictures would be useful!

you are dead on target. thing is though i have a circular saw. only used it to cut plywood. i thought abought using it but when i looked at i didnt think it had a height adjustment. maybe mine dont and i need a different one. and i understand about the grain. i have checked around and my pattern has been discontinued.

Some saws use a wing nut, others a knob to release the plate for adjustment, and I would almost bet the farm yours is adjustable. Don't take this personally or anything of the sort, but it sounds like you haven't had much experience using a circular saw, and this type of repair calls for tilting/tipping the blade down onto you desired mark, by holding the front of the bottom plate against the floor, and with the back-end raised...then slowly lowering the spinning blade onto your cut-line. You might wish to have a friend or someone more experienced do the initial cut-out.

You could also attempt removal by making a few pass's with a router or laminate trimmer{again using a straight edge as a guide}. There a few types of hand saws that could work as well, a Japanese pull saw is one I can think of offhand, though very tedious work. Last resort I can offer is, if it's that thin, you could spend the time with a razor knife making a whole bunch of pass's lol.

Maybe others here will join in with other solutions...best of luck!

Re: partial laminate floor replacement

hey your not hurting my feelings. no not alot of experiance with the circular saw. but once i try something i perfect it. i would be answering this question instead of asking if i knew what to do. i already did one spot with the 4 in one tool. and i did pretty good job. but its hard to control the straight edge. even with the double side tape. i did it about a month ago. the blade is just to flimsy and i had a hard time controling the depth. hit the concrete slab, dulls the blade

I'm not familiar with the '4 in one tool' but yes a stiff blade is required. As to having problems with the straight edge, I use a 1"x8" or wider board and I kneel on it{along with using the double sided tape} to help keep it from wandering.
