I have an 86 Citation 19 foot cuddy cabin. It's nothing but a money pit anymore. There are many new and perfect parts. If I sell all the parts off of it, What can I do with the fiberglass carcass? Will it cost as much to dispose of as I made selling the parts?

Possible. I think your best bet is to sell the whole thing to a guy who will come on here for advice on restoring it.

It will go quicker for a couple hundred bux than if you offer to give it away. Doesn't make sense? Right, but still a true story.

You may want to try selling it cheap or giving it away instead of trying to dispose of it.

Re: Parting Out Problem.

The engine runs ok but it burns oil and fouls the plugs. After about 30 hours of running, I need to clean the plugs and change the oil. It turns black very quickly. It has a nice pedistal mounted swivel captians bucket seat, I Bought a new fold out passenger seat and two rear seats. I redone the padded side panels and bought a new Bimini top. It has a nice EZ Loader trailer. I bought the boat 4 years ago. I paid $500 . When I bought it, I drove it on the water and knew it leaked. Water was coming in from the drive shaft bellows and I knew how to fix that. Besides needing new seats, the boat and trailer were in fair condition. It did need a lot of elbow grease to make it shine.
I paid 500, put in about 2,500 had a great time for 4 years water skiing, tubing , fishing ,etc, etc,,.

If I could get $1,500 out of it I would be happy.

So whats the end goal here? it sounds like you need a motor to get this boat good to go, are you looking to upgrade? doesn't sound like you really want to get out of boating which makes me wonder...

sounds like your handy so why not pull the motor and get it freshened up? Rings bearings and a head job throw the motor back in and your back on the water....

Yes Commander Lipp, I am capable of overhauling the engine. The end goal is a new boat. I'm getting tired of sinking money in this one. Maybe it's not the money more than the time and effort. Anyhow, I'm looking for a 3-4 year old used boat. 20-24 foot cuddy cabin.

Re: Parting Out Problem.

ok if it were me, I would enjoy it the rest of the season, then this off season rebuild the motor(or not) and sell it next spring in prime boat selling season.

Then go get your new boat, just a hint hope for a better economy, in fact I would sit on it until December, if the economy is just as bad then I would just try to sell it for cheap in the spring without rebuilding the motor, your likely to do pretty well in the spring when a lot of people are thinking of getting into boating cheap, and it really doesn't make sense for you to rebuild the motor for something your not going to get the return on the investment since you want to upgrade. I'm guessing its for sale now and your not getting any action?

That was my plan. Enjoy the rest of the season, spit shine it and sell it. I haven't offerd it for sale yet. I would imagine I would get a few offers. My thought was to look for a few year old boat in the middle of winter. I figured the prices would be the cheapest then. Then sell my old boat in the Spring when the prices should be a little higher. Now the wife and I are arguing over what kind of boat to get. She wants a bigger cuddy cabin with more luxuries, I want a bigger engine with more horsepower. She wants a boat with furniture, I want a boat with chrome headers.

Check with boat dealers they ay buy it for parts. Known several people who have done this. Didn't make money but got rid of boat. Another thing you couls do is cut up and haul off to dump peice by peice. Just saying.

Take it "as is" to a used boat lot that has the model that you're looking for and use it as partial trade in. You won't get as much as you want for it because they're just going to wholesale it out. But, no hassel, no repairs, and a new boat.

Trading it is definitely the easiest route. You won't get as much, but if you are thinking of scrapping it anyway, it might make sense.
