I need the following for a 1958 Johnson 18 hp, Model number FD-12, serial number 1708238.

A complete lower unit seal kit, (prop shaft, shift shaft, drive shaft, and o-ring for the lower unit cap) also a water pump kit. Anyone got a source of supply for these parts.

Also, this engine does not have a fuel pump. It used the pressurized tank set up. I've been told that a fuel pump from a 60 hp can be adapted to this engine. However, I am unsure where and how to hook it up. I would assume it would use pressure from one of the cylinders to "pulse" the diaphragm.

Anybody ever done this mod before?

Thanks, FP

For the parts, check the iboats MegaMall link at the top of this page.

Re: Parts and technical advice needed

It seems a few people have had a problem with that particular kit on the particular engine. This post here is what reminded me of it.
I don't think the kit is still available from the dealer, so I don't have any great advice but to make sure the seals you get in it match the seals you're taking out. If they don't try to carefully extract the old seal and take it to your local bearing house /shaft seal supply store and see if they don't have one that'll fit.
If you don't have a tank already, it's usually a lot cheaper to buy a pressure tank off ebay and fix it up rather than convert. To convert, normally on that engine you drill and tap one of the bypass covers for the pump pulse pickup. There's two styles of pumps - the old style that has a glass bowl attached, and is connected to the crankcase via some fuel line, or the later style which would bolt directly to the bypass cover. There may already be a place to mount the earlier style on your engine, but the later style is easier to find (even new).
