parts compatibility through the years

I need to know if the tiller handle will swap from a 1981 model mercury 25 to a 2002 model merc 25. I am in th process of changing my 2002 motor to a tiller handle and have the opportunity to buy a 1981 motor for really cheap. Will these parts swap over?

Once was probably enough, it's the holidays, not as much foot traffic as other days of the year..

Look up both motors here, and see if the parts numbers match. You'll need serial #'s and you'll have several 25hp catagories to dig thru.

But Mercs, 21yrs apart, I doubt it....
