Parts compatible?

I have a 74 Johnson 50hp model
50ESL74M and an 73 Evinrude 70hp model 70873c. Can I use a spare coil from the Evinrude on the Johnson? They match in size wire colors and wire length and mounting holes but part numbers differ. Just checking if they may indeed be the same before trying the switch. Thanks

The model number for the 70 hp indicates a 1978 model.

Beats me. I've come up with no less than 7 part numbers between them, but in no case does one part number apply to both motors.

No interchange with the aftermarket parts either
