I have a 63 evinrude, 18 hp that just began not going into forward or reverse. It does on oocasion but as soon as I rev up the motor, it jumps out. I have read some articles on this and it seems to be the clutch dog and/or forward gear. Are these parts still available for this motor and if so, please where can I find them?

Thank-you very much.

Krof

If it will not go into forward, or reverse, that sound's like a linkage problem.Remove the oblong cover on the right side of the exhaust housing, reach in and grasp the shift rod with a needle nose plier's, and work the shift handle. See how much play there is.

Thanks, I will give it a try. If there is a lot of play, what should I try then? Again, I really appreciate your assistance.
Krof

On the bottom of the shift handle there is an adjustment screw to adjust the shift linkage throw. See if this screw has come loose.
