Regarding this project boat I'm in the process of working on - 1971 Searay with an inline six cylinder Mercruiser 165. The engine work is going well. The block was in good shape - just some surface rust - while the tin parts were rusted. I ordered a new (used) timing cover from a vendor off of ebay, but haven't received it yet. I have access to a used Mercruiser 120 of the similar vintage. Does anyone know if the timing covers are the same?

I know some parts are interchangeable, just not sure if the cover is.

On a related subject - is the fuel pump the same as well?

The internals on the engine were in great shape.
The cylinders checked out fine and I was able to get away with simply honing them. The pistons cleaned up nicely. The crank and cam look brand new. Now I am in the process of putting everything back together. New rings, bearings, oil pump... etc. Will post some before and after pictures as I go along!

Might give one of the many online parts breakdowns that gives mercruiser part numbers and see if the part numbers are the same. While they may look the same externally, something as minorl as the timing tab being in the wrong place could be the difference
