Got a question on pay pal. I recieved an e-mail saying someone was trying to access my account and to go to my account and verify my info. They didn't ask for any pass words, but included in the mail was a link to pay pal I could click on. Being aware of scams I wouldn't do it but went to my account through my normal ways. I had no message refering to a problem. Just need re-affirming this is a scam, 99% sure it is but there is that 1%. Here is the link I wouldn't click on. https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr? cmd=_login-run

Re: pay pal question

This is absolutely a scam, one of the most common ones out there. I'm an avid Ebayer and I get messages like this at least once every few weeks. They look very official but they are not. Do not click the link. Your account will be fine and is untouched. UNLESS you click the link and send them the info they want. Then the crooks will hijack your account and make purchases with it.

If you want, you can do a search on Ebay's website and find a way to forward the email to their fraud reporting system. I used to do this, then it became so routine I gave up. They are well aware of the problem and are trying to chase the perpetrators down. Unfortunately they're probably scrawny little teenagers in Zimbabwae or something and they'll never all be found.

In the meantime, just delete them when you get them.

Its called Spoof email, paypal, and ebay both have a spoof section, you can forward the exact email in question, and normally they will get back in touch within a few hours telling you if its spoof mail or legit....

My money is on spoof.

I have 2 paypal accounts, and 1 ebay account...I think I get at least 1 spoof mail a day.

That may be the name of the link.... but that's not where it goes.... place your mouse over the link and look at the bottom left of your browser page, betcha it's not paypal.... let us know.

And when in doubt, check with the company the e-mail supposedly is from. They'll verify if it's real or not.

Re: pay pal question

Any pay pal or ebay information will show up in your ebay message box if it's real.

Re: pay pal question

The email is a spoof. The process of getting you to divulge your information is called "phishing".

Re: pay pal question

PayPal has a nice page explaining how to recognize fraud emails like this. It's on the right side of their home page and says Privacy. Prevention. Protection. Go read it, they cover a bunch of internet security stuff.

Re: pay pal question

All scams..ignore. Go to ebay or paypals site ONLY if you think you have a problem (but ya don't becuase they are all scams). And latest is some scam crap saying its a "Question from Ebay Member", without any reference numbers, asking "wheres my money?", and a link to click. Just delete them all

Re: pay pal question

Another big one is the second chance offer. If you bid on an item, but dont win it, you will get a second chance offer asking you to send the money if you still want it. Thats one of the latest problems ebay is having.
I actually just recieved a paypal email a few days ago like the original post mentioned. The link did say 'paypal login' but it was after a whole bunch of other crap.(www.judd:hty//rnngt.paypal/login) etc... you get the point.
Luckily, I havent had any security problems with paypal or ebay yet. You just need to be careful.
Paypal also says that they will never address you as "dear paypal customer". They will always use your name in an email.

Re: pay pal question

Heres one for ya, I received a phone call, supposively it was E-bay rep. and wanted to know if I was interested in their upcoming toy sale.. Concidering the drop in sales in the past 4 months I stopped selling.. I cut her off and checked my ebay section no notices.. Oh well, but what upset me is they had my full name, address, my user id, plus my e-mail address... Wasn't a happy person..
But I received the same e-mails too.. You have to keep turning them in..
If you scroll down to the botton and really read the return address section(headings) there is an ISP number plus these idiots actually have their real name in the path..
When I sell I get about 4 or more of these aweek..
Alot of these are coming from out of USA.. There is nothing that they can do, but turn it in.. Its just a big circle.. Unless they're here in USA then charges can pend..
