Anybody have a good, free one?

Looking for one that will sit sit in the toolbar, giving the current temp and be able to bring up forecasts, plus flash on weather alerts.

I was using the weather channel one. which was all right, but started acting goofy and was uninstalled. Just wondering is there is something better.

Thanks

Use caution when picking a new one. When you click the accept agreement button, sometimes you are volunteering your internet habits and website history in exchange for weather updates.

I use Mozilla Firefox with Forecastfox Enhanced. It's one of many weather addons. Thay're all free as far as I know. It gives the temps and other data at the bottom plus when you mouse over the radar icon it pops up an animated radar image. The "popup" disappears when you move the mouse away so it's not intrusive at all. Before that I used to just to go weather.com, put in my zip and then bookmark that page. It beats having some program living in my tray sucking resources and doing who knows what else all the time.

I'm going to get flamed, but I use weatherbug. Yea, it robs some resources; and yea, it does some advertising; but I like the temperature always in the tool tray and the weather alerts, including Amber alerts. Been using it about 4 years.

From wikipedia (confirmed by other sites too):

"In 2005, Microsoft AntiSpyware, now known as Windows Defender, flagged WeatherBug as a spyware program, but this classification was removed.[1] The program is adware, because it downloads and displays advertising which cannot be turned off without paying a fee to upgrade to the professional version. Note the commonly accepted definition of adware (see adware) is different that the one adopted by the AWS corporation. Today, many similar programs deliver weather information without obtrusive advertising. Detailed uninstallation and removal instructions for WeatherBug are available. (See http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml)"

So, it dosn't seem like there is any tracking, etc. (not spyware).

On the topic of legitimate adware, I have mixed feelings. (I am not talking about stuff that gets downloaded without any obvious indication/asking permission) Remember, television programs used to be "adware supported" (prior to cable tv, and not PBS stuff). On the other hand, if you actually need all your PC's resources then it's costing you too. Also, companies wouldn't be doing it if it didn't work.

Weatherbug used to get around being called spyware by installing a second program called gator in the background. Since gator actually did the spying, they could "legitimately" claim their Weatherbug itself wasn't spyware. The two programs I see on customer machines frequently causing problems are Weatherbug and Webshots.

Think about it. They have millions of dollars in equipment and software to give a product away free?

I have a personal weather station and upload it to weatherunderground. I can see weather at my house anytime I want.

Sound's good.

I see where, even without a home weather station, you can use the free PC software, to get weather stats from thousands of stations, probably your's also.

Those little cutesy ones like weatherbug that sit down in your task bar go out and check every 5 seconds which chews up bandwidth.
