Pelican Predator Trolling Motor Mount Problem

I have a Pelican Predator small pre-formed fishing boat that I use to bass fish with a trolling motor only. You can view a picture of this boat at directboats.com. You can find this boat by either the category or brand name searches on the left. When you find the boat you will see two pictures of it. Click on the smaller picture and it will show you a full screen top view of the boat and you can see the front trolling motor mount. You can see from this picture that the entire boat is encircled with a rubber bumper guard. The front trolling motor mount is offset left of center and it sets back 2 and 1/2" behind this rubber bumper. I have a Minn Kota 65Ta clamp mounted trolling motor I use for this boat. Because the mount sets back from the rubber bumper my trolling motor will not tilt to the full vertical position. I'm looking for some kind of auxillary mount or some way that will move my trolling motor out so that the motor will tilt full vertical. I've thought about placing a board on the outside under the clamp but the clamp only has enough clearance for about a 1/2" board and this still does not move the motor far enough out. There is also no way to use a gator type mount either. Any suggestions?

It looks form the picture that the Motor would sit OVER the rubber guard. Is that the case?

Re: Pelican Predator Trolling Motor Mount Problem

Rick,

Thanks for your reply. When clamped on the motor does not extend far enough out over the bumper to tilt fully vertical. The motor needs to be displaced about 2" farther out (about even with the rubber bumper) so it will tilt fully vertical. Hard to tell from the picture that the mount is 2&1/2" inside the rubber bumper. Does that answer your question?

v/rSoonerSlim

I can see from this picture what you are up against. Let me look around a bit and see if there are any other mounts that might work. Sounds like your mount is too narrow to work...

Re: Pelican Predator Trolling Motor Mount Problem

Rick,

Thanks for your help. My current bracket opening is about 2 and 3/4 inches. The Minn Kota people tell me the bracket on the Endura models is 3 &1/4 inches and will fit my motor, $27.50 plus shipping. Changing to this bracket may move the motor far enough out to clear. I don't think the bass pro shop mount will work. Thanks again.

Jim

Rick,

Where did you find this picture of the small craft motor mount by Minn Kota? Was it on the Bass Pro website or in their catalog? Thanks again.
