I have a volvo penta 270 outdrive, with the electric motor drive lift.
Anyhow, just recently the motor won't lift the outdrive up, unless you manually reach under the outdrive and release the spring loaded locking mechanism first, then it works fine, until you bring it down all the way and it locks again.

If it helps, it stopped unlocking itself after accidentally hitting the throttle with the drive lift up, causing the drive to drop by itself.

Any suggestions???

Thanks guys

What probably happened, is when the drive went down you either bent the linkage rod (Item 3 in upper left of pic) or crushed the rod end that screws onto the linkage rod. (#2 in same pic). The pushrod from the mechanical lift must push that rod to unlock the lockdown mechanism before it contacts the H bracket at B.

Wow- Thanks SO much! I don't have service manual, and that diagram just gave me everything I needed to know, in addition to your diagnosis. Awesome! Thanks again.
