Penta SX-M Trim sending unit replacement questions

I have a 2000 SX-M where the wires basically dry rotted very close to the sending unit, so I am going to replace it. I have ordered a new one, but was looking at the job at hand for when the part comes in, and I cannot get that wire to budge from the outside at all. It looks like it has a holding wire installed so it will not move around much, and I can barely get to any of it. Will I need to pull the drive off to be able to access the wires, and I am guessing I will have to feed them through a grommet of some sort back the engine wire harness? I saw a thread from Don S that may have had directions at some time, but the tread does not contain what ever it was anymore - any pics, instructions, or advice would be a great help - and I sure appreciate the help.

been searching the web, and cannot find too many people that have done this - is this a very hard repair that is normally just left broken?

While it's not the most common thread around, it's been asked several times, and answered.
I did finally get a file put together just for that sender. See file below.

Re: Penta SX-M Trim sending unit replacement questions

Thanks for the information - If I cannot get my hand in there with the drive turned all the way to the side, will I need to remove the unit to do this? Or is there a trick to being able to access the needed area shown in the diagrams?

Thanks,
Brian

Look at your boat. It's obvious.
