Perfection paint and a Boot stripe.

I am painting my boat with Perfection red and I would like a white boot stripe but the white I have is Toplac which is a one part Poly. I am worried what the Toplac will do overtop of the two part Poly perfection. Now the perfection will be dried for a couple days before the boot stripe goes on. Do I need to worry about the two part paint and the one part boot stripe?

I am going to write interlux and ask them also.

I really do not think there will be a problem but DO NOT take my word for it. I do not think the poly is "hot" enough to hurt the perfection.

Have you considered pinstripping? It looks good, it's certainly easier, it lasts a long time and can be replaced easily if needed.

Just a thought.

Check the perfection. Many (all?) enamels have a recoat time of 30 mins or 1 week or similar. This means they will not react well to any paint applied within that 1st week, unless it is applied within 30mins of the initial application. Trust me, it fails badly when you try to agnore that direction.

Toplac wont hurt a thing over Perfection. Let it cure a few days. Tape the boot stripe with fineline, scuff the area to be painted lightly and paint away. I would remove the tape as soon as the paint flashes.

I think the perfection recoat time is 3hr -3 days (longest time based off of temp and humidity. To be honest call the anonymous perfection support hotline. They were a huge help to me. 1800-468-7589

The two different guys I talked to were extremely knowledgeable.

I sent an email to interlux they said it would not be a problem at all. The only issue will be if I go to repaint with Perfection it will not work over the boat stripe that now has the Toplac. I will just the perfection down to it if I ever have to walk through a repaint again. I hope not too soon.
