Hey gang,
Does anyone know where I can go to compare gas powered engines? I am interested in comparing Merc's vs. Volvo's on performance and effeciency (e.g. 300 vs. 350 vs. 7.4L vs. 6.2L vs. Volvo 5.0L vs. Volvo 5.7L etc...). Please send links...I appreciate feedback with your own opinion too.
Cheers,

Re: Performance Specs

Mercury Marine provides performance reports for their products in/on various hulls

http://www.mercurymarine.com/look_deeper/index.php

Volvo Penta does not appear to provide this information to the public

http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/na/en-us/marine_leisure_engines/engines/c_gasoline_sterndrive/

But their IPS drive system sure is interesting. I?d love to try one out

I?ve owned a lot of Mercury products and never had a problem. I do, however, have a lot of respect for Volvo Penta drives and would have no problem buying a new boat with one ? If I hadn?t switched to outboards. Probably a more refined product in design.

Re: Performance Specs

Efficiency will be the same for all the gas engines, roughly .087 gph per hp produced. There's not enough difference between them to worry about; the boat's displacement and hull design will cause far more variation in efficiency.

Re: Performance Specs

totally agree, and if you are bickering over a 1/2 gallon per hour, you can't afford to be boating.
