:facepalm:Hi My friends, I have a Boat cobalt 1994 454, 7,4 mercruiser engine stock i only change the carburetor to edelbrock 750 and manifiold edelbrock too, I installed a new cam from crane cams spec card for #133802, but When I advanced the distributor time the boat take a great performace, but its very hard to start the engine, if I put the distributor in position to start the engine with not problems, the boat loses all the performance and is very lazy. What I can do?

Thanks for helpme

I too, wondered about the advancing, you should see a big change, as the rpms go up. It should be fully advanced at about 3000 rpm, or under. Hope you put marine carb, and a cam with a grind for a boat motor.

That is a boat cam which is only a slight bit larger than stock and can be run with stock exhaust. Most important with timing is that it is correct at full advance. That engine at full advance should be 32 degrees by 3400 rpm's or a little less. You may need to get a timing tape to put on your balancer if it is not marked that high in degrees. If balancer is stock they usually aren't marked that high. At idle it should be 8-10 degrees.
