Permanent Fuel Tank Installation - Rubber Strips

I have a 20 gallon aluminum under-floor tank in my 20' Imperial. I removed the tank to clean out varnish and gum buildup. Noticed 4 rubber strips, each about 18" long lying loose on the tank. Anyone know why they are there or if they are to be attached? I think they may be there to prevent static electricity build up, but not sure. Also, don't know if I should attach them to the tank or not. Any help appreciated.

shoes...my 21 gallon tank also has strips. i'd have to agree that they keep it from rattling, and also would assume they would absurb some of the bumps and such. mine were originally attached with tape to hold them in place, so i reattached as close to the original positions as i could get them.

A little trick I have seen to fix the tank in instaed of using rubber is to fire in a few strategic blobs of expanding foam between the tank and adjacent bulkhead / frame. It will fix the tank and can easily be cut out should you ever need to service it in the future.

Hey Shoes, I just purchased an aluminum tank for on deck mounting in my Montauk. The company owner told me to silicone rubber strips to the bottom of the tank so that it is kept off the floor and the water does not puddle under it. Maybe that's were these are or were?
