pertronix ignitions

I recently purchased a Pertronix ignition for my 1973 mercruiser ford 302. After installation the motor failed to run, it would fire but not keep running. I put the old points back in and it fired up on the first try. I was wondering if anybody has had any trouble like this, and if so what could be done to fix it? I would like to use the electronic ignition, and I do have the flame thrower 2 coil already installed.

Did you disable or eliminate the ballast resistor to the positive side of the coil?

When you put the points back in did you also hook up another wire to the coil? As mentioned above it sounds like the "Key On 12v" is missing from the coil.

On my 302, I ended up pulling a 12v lead off the back of the key switch directly to the coil and removed the ballast wire (tan wire between coil and choke). Worked like a champ.
