PFD options for big men

Im not a small guy im 6' 3" and 285 lbs. unfortunately its stress fat so I have a good size spare tire. (we joke that if I was to try tubing it would look like someone was dragging a polar bear up the river )

Anyway with that said. When I try on PFD's that are listed in my size and weight they look more like a Bra than a Life Jacket (I have a tried quite a few). This is because the girth works but there is not enough length to get over my belly.


Where can I get a jacket that is made with specifically with heavier people in mind? is there sizing considerations for large people that I can figure in when ordering online so it comes down over my belly?

The length is the issue with all the larger size jackets. I have been looking for a couple of years and they all seem to think if your rounder you must be only 5 foot tall.

It was a challange for me. I did find one at the marina where I bought my boat. Like everything else for big men, you are going to pay more for it. Nothing at Walmart will fit....

I find Bass Pro so overpriced even their fishing equipment on sale is high. Their clothes are often a different matter. I went in for shirts and shorts a couple days ago and saw the big guy ahead of me with a PFD and said he found one that would fit. That may be a possibility...

******** have Big and Tall sizes that on the 2xl and up have 3 extra inches in the length. I have not got one yet, but in the next couple of days i will be ordering one. I am 6'8" and around 300 lbs...

O'Neil makes mid and upper tier ski vests in 2XL and 3XL. They are light and comfortable, though will get hot in muggy weather if you are wearing it full time while boating.

If you are looking for something for watersports then take a look at Body Glove or O'neil. Their neoprene jackets seem to run a little longer and come in bigger sizes. If you just need something that fits and you never go in the water with it, then that Stearns fishing style posted above should work.

Old post, but new Life Vest. Hyperlite and HO Sports in 2017 just came out with TALL life vests for Large Men. We are looking at TALL men 300 lbs or perhaps a little more depending on chest size. The HO SPORTS NYLON TALL is sold up to size 5XL-TALL. the Hyperlite TALL NEOPRENE life Jacket is sold up to 4XL-TALL. Either one will handle your weight up to 300 lbs without looking like a bra.
