Re: Phone number trick
Found this on the net, aint it great!!!

********************************************
At first glance it looks pretty neat, but let's do a bit of math, shall we?

If the first three digits of your phone number are "X" and the last four are "Y", then the above puzzle can be expressed as half of an equation as follows:

(250(80X + 1) + 2Y - 250)/2

Okay, let's expand that out a bit now. You multipy everything inside the first set of brackets by 250 and get...

(20000X + 250 + 2Y - 250)/2

Now, the first thing any good math geek should notice is that the two instances of 250 cancel out, leaving you with...

(20000X + 2Y)/2

Oooh, look at all those factors of two inside the brackets. And we're dividing by 2. So after all the cutesy steps, what are we left with?

10000X + Y = Your phone number.

So in other words, you take the first three digits of your phone number, add four zeroes to the end, and then replace those four zeroes with the last four digits of your phone number, and by an AMAZING COINCIDENCE, you get your phone number! WOW!

Okay, it kind of takes the mystery out of it when you actually do the math, but someone's gotta do it.
