My nephew( age 12) decided to to jump into a pool with his phone in his pocket. His carrier is Verizon and I use Sprint. Both use CDMA technology. I have several Sprint phones, Can I get one of them swapped from Sprint to Verizon for him.

Re: Phone swap question

Depends.

Some carriers program "lock" their phones, internally, so they can only be used with their service.

The easiest way to tell is to slip in the SIM card and power on. We have done that with good results.

Sorry no Sim cards in Verizon phones. Won't work. All Verizon phones are proprietary with their software. I have Verizon and hate them for this. I am working on switching all phones to Boost Mobile $50.00 unlimited plan.

No sim cards to swap out, CDMA technology does not need sim cards,

Sprint does not have sim cards either, Sprint and Verizon actually used the same towers, If you are in a roaming area and the only tower is of the other company you will be on their service. (was told that by a Sprint tech.) I have unlimited service and If i use *2 to call Sprint customer service in a roaming area I will actually get Verizon Customer service.. Freaked me out the first time I did that.

Best way to find out is take a Sprint phone to Verizon and see what they say. I know that sprint and verizon phones work on our local CDMA provider no problem.
