Hey Guy's,

Thought Id share some pics of the Neptune I pucked up a few weeks ago.

Its a 1946 Neptune Jr. Single model # 15b1. Its 1.5 hp

When I got it she needed a little cleaning and polishing, but fired up on the second pull! Not bad for being 64 years old!

I pulled the tank off and the flywheel and completely stripped them both. The flywheel I polished on my drill press.

Then I disassembled the lower half , checked all bushings/ gears and gave everything a good polish with the hand held drill w/ pad and some brass and aluminum polish.

I love these older outboards, their so simple to work on! Plus they used materials you just dont find on the new, plastic models these days!

New decals are on the way.

Hope everyone enjoyed! I know I did!

Friend of mine has one like that. He's about ready to let it go to the recycle yard for copper and aluminum :(

Good find and nice rehab!

Should you find you need parts Doug Penn has a LOT of used parts as well as having bought out the remaining stock of new parts a few years ago. That he's very helpful and pleasant to deal with is no small thing as well.

Beautiful job,That motor morfed into the Mighty-Mite AA1-A circa 1956 production continued basically unchanged into the early 80s.

Sa-Weet work my friend. Looks great. I've done a couple just like you describe...a piece at a time. Keep it running and pass it along to the younger generation, along with the stories it helps generate.

Ive never agreed with the cowel they added to the MM. I think it really takes away from the raw utilitarian aspect of the motor. I also love the heart shaped tanks! It still needs some small polish detailing but that can wait til the fall.

Never the less these motors are a blast to use! I use it on my 12' skiff I built last year and it works great, at only 17 lbs you cant beat it.

Its such a head turner, last week I had a older gentalman tell me he had a '47 Neptune as a trolling motor on his '58 MFG.

I also have a '61 Seagull Silver Century long shaft that Im still not sure what to use on, but the price was right so it now has a new home:D

Id sooner have one of these vintage motors on board as a back up than some of the newer "Jap Crap" out there. None of my older motors have EVER let me down! I take the Seagull out on my 15' fishing boat everytime. Green Peace might have a heart attack if they saw the sheen left in my wake, but the SG is a bullet proof tank thats capable of pushing a 25' cruiser!

Hi ... I love your pictures B4 & after. I just got one. I have a couple of questions. When you went into the lower unit did you make a new gasket, if so was it special material? Also there is a rubber grommet on on of the small pipes, did you replace it? What type of grease did you use in the lower unit?
I hope you don't mind the questions and I may have a couple in the near future if it's ok. Thanks, Ron

Nice job! I was given a Muncie/Neptune years ago, an 11B2. These motors are simple to service. Mine has a built in flywheel puller nut and a choke on the steering handle. I think it is a 1941. She runs great on the original spark plug and 16:1 mix. I will never let her go. Once again, nice job.

I like the old Neptunes. They're good little motors and are easy to work on. I had one once and it was a good runner. I learned years ago, that several of these motors were built by "home assemblers" Pretty cool thing.

Re: Picked up this little gem!

Beautiful! Just picked one of these up myself. Needs a little TLC though. I'm looking for a spark plug for this so I can get mine running. The number is unrecognizable, any idea of which one I can use or where I can get it? Any idea of how much one of these is worth?
Thanks!
