I was told that unit caps do not have vents, but this might prove otherwise.
Pressure tested and air was coming out of the center hole, the same one that the pancake batter has been coming out of (see prior post) http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=412932.
Air was also excaping out of the pry hole but mainly after covering the Vent hole.
This pic is the cap and it shows the pry slot and the hole in the middle is a vent with a seal.
This is a closeup(a little out of focus) of the vent.
This shows the hole that passes through to the vent seal.
Is this a plug for the vent? Because they found them(vents) to be a problem?
It was in a package of seals I used to reseal the unit years ago.
I have never seen a replacement seal for this vent, maybe because no one thinks these caps have vents. This is on an original 1967 120 that has been in the same family it's whole life so I know it is the original cap. It only took about 3-5 psi to hear it leaking air form the vent with just my ear, no scope needed. Covered both the vent and pry hole and at 15psi heard no other leaks with the scope.
So again the main questions are:
Is this a vent?
Were can a new vent seal be found?
Should I just use the plug on the vent?
I will be replacing the o-ring on the cap.
Thanks
