I have a 1991 Volvo Penta with a 305 Chevy. I had it hooked up to muffs today while working on it. While keeping a eye on the gauges I noticed that the heat guage started rising more than it should. Then I look back and see just a tiny bit of smoke coming out of the impeller housing. I shut it down right away. The heat gauge never made it anywhere near red. I look under the swim deck and it turns out the muffs slid right off. The muffs probably came off as soon as the engine started running. My guess is it ran 3 minutes or so without water. I havent bothered checking the impeller but I know it is surely burned up. Any chance that anything else may have been damaged? The impeller is smoked and no signs of water coming out the back. Should I even bother trying to drain the engine again?
