Just showing the pic to this question that some of you asked, put the housing back on quick just to show how it kinda came off. the tube was frozen to the plastic peice on the water pump housing. did get it out but after it came with the lower unit. TH.

Tuning up and fixing up an old 1984 chrysler 115. The lower unit was not serviced in a long time im guessing 4 years. I struggled but got the lower unit off the Int. housing and came across 2 problems...

1. the water tube was frozen to the plastic peice on the water pump, and completly came out with the lower unit/water pump. do i have to take the entire bottom block off to get at this and fix it?

2. the sealing ring, spacer, and ruber collar did not fall out with the driveshaft, I looked up there and it doesnt look like I can get at it unless i should shove something up there to try and know it loose or something like that.

I see that the rubber grommet came out with the tube. If you like punishment, you can try fishing around up there to replace the tube and grommet but like I told you in the last post, most likely you will need to remove the powerhead and replace it from above the midleg. That grommet also seals the midleg tube and support to the block match plate. Get it in wrong and you will be leaking water and possibly overheat. Since the grommet came out, there is a possibility that the support is broken. You need to check it. Bite the bullet and do it correctly.

Didn't believe me last time, HUH? LOL

Regarding the spline seal, it should come out easy. If you can "borrow" a neighborhood kid, their hand will fit up and grab it. Otherwise take a length of flat stock and bend a little 90 at the end so you can reach up, hook the edge and pull it down.

But if you are pulling the head, its a mute point.

Seeing that pic of the gear case with the water tube stuck in it really made an impression on me while assembling my gear case today. So just to be on the safe side, I put a little anti-seize on the bottom of the tube before bolting on the gear case. Hopefully, that will prevent any sticking of the tube to the water pump down the road!
