That impeller has taken a set like nobody's business. Also, what condition is the housing in? Most are plastic and any abnormal heat will tend to mildly warp them to where you won't get a good seal. Lastly, once this far along, spend $20 and don't worry for another 200 - 300 hrs.

Change it. It's out already, replace it and don't worry about it until next season or so.

Re: Picture of impeller: good or bad

I always heard bad ones could look good. They say you should change it every year. If you are not sure last time it was changed, change it anyways. The first thing I always do when I get a new(used) motor is change the impeller even if previous owner said they changed it recently.

its bad.
dunno if its the lighting or what but it also looks glazed from heat.
carefully inspect the housing. ANY sign of housing melt scraps the housing.
the ONLY thing that melts them is dry running.
takes 30 seconds, sometimes less, to destroy a housing with a dry start.

Re: Picture of impeller: good or bad

if you have to ask it's bad
LOL, at first this seemed a wise-***** comment, but I think it's actually wisdom.

Which is to say, I replaced the impeller and it cools like nobody's bidness.

PS I see that I've achieved PO2. This the second time I've enjoyed the rate, the first being in 1967 aboard the USS Worden (DLG-18) and I was then an ETR-2.

Time flies.

If your not sure what time yesterday that you changed it, you should change it again.

Now that is a wise-a** comment that has no wisdom. LOL

OMG, another Navy electronics tech. Thompson, ETN-2 here. USS Beatty DD756, USNAVCOMSTA, Wahiawa, Hawaii. Served from 1966-1972, both active duty and reserve! And yes, how time flies......

I have that argument all the time with customers at my shop. They refuse to admit that they did something stupid like that. When confronted with the facts they say something like "I only ran it for a minute, that's not long enough to hurt it.
