I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war.

He stands tough, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this......

I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it. I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains.

I left my family distitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on citical issues because it might be bad for business.

I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people.

It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.

It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.

It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag and whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen"

A friend of mine sent this to me last night with a note. Let's send this to the Liberals, the idiot protesters that got nothing better to do with their time and to the so called "Stars" of the cinema looking for something else to make them stand out. Then put them an the front line and let them experience first hand what our Country is all about.

I think my bud got a hellava good idea.

Re: Picture This

Once again I would say. Not being in agreement with going to war in Iraq does not mean that someone doesnt' support our Armed Forces, the constitution, or America in general.

Just because someone isn't in for our country going to war does not make them anti American.

This war is not about free speech in America. This war is not about your liberty or freedom. However this war turns out we in this country will still have free speech and freedom. Unless your thinking that Iraq can defeat our armed forces and come across the ocean and invade our country.

Ask yourself this. Do you believe that invading a small country will make you safer? Do you think abandoning 200 years of foriegn policy is worth Iraq? Should the US be exporting our form of government down the world's throat at the point of a gun?

Re: Picture This

Hi wvit100.

Don't having the eloquence to answer these types of questions like 12footer does but I will try.

This is a soldiers prayer. It's a soldier reminding us of who really gave us the freedom we have today.

It doen't say that if your against war your anit- American. It's asking for our support of the soldiers on the battle field.

Yes it is about free speech and freedom. But to a people that's been suppressed in basic human rights. They may not live here in the USA. But none the less, they have been denied basic human rights.

Our country has already been invaded. The exact date is 9/11/01. We were invaded in the most cowardly attack on our people since Pearl Harbor. And it wasn't even a military base but inocent civilians that were attacked.

Will I feel safer knowing a regime like Husseins' has been taken out? You betcha!!! It means terroist groups like Bin Laden's will have one less place to train and get arms. It will also make a statement that the USA will not take any more crap like 911.

We are not going in to Iraq to shove our form of government down the people of Iraq throats. But to give them the freedom to chose their own form of democracy and to chose leaders that will worry more about how to keep food on the peoples tables than keeping missles in the basement. Regimes like Husseins' don't last. History has proven that.

Again, my eloquence with the written word ain't good. But I hope my points have been understood. Again, please take my post for what it was meant to be. A plea to support our troops even though the war may not be to your liking.

You say that we were invaded on 9/11. We were attacked by terrorists, none of whom were from Iraq.

Re: Picture This

I agree that the US was right to go into Afganistan and root out the terrorists that attacked us.

Iraq, however, has not been shown to have supported any terrorism against the US. I know that Saddam's is a represive government, but since when is that the US's place to tell anyone what sort of government they should have. Most of the countries in the Middle East our run by dictators, most of Africa is run by dictators.

Iraq has used chemicals against their people. Russia gassed a bunch of people in a theater only a year ago, the US gassed a bunch of people and burned them to a crisp in Texas a couple of years ago.

Why is it the place of America to go into a country half a world away and root out a government that has never attacked us? You have to remember that it wasn't America in the first Gulf War, it was the United Nations. Almost the whole world was with us.

This time around it is almost exclusively American soldiers. The United Nations is not behind this war.

Re: Picture This

As of Sunday eavning, the United States intel reports and neutral journalist reports of an ALQUEDA TERRORIST TRAING CAMP was operating and being supported in Iraq were proven to be true..US forces have taken it, and the video is on you TV even as we speak!
Wvitt, this is as much a war against terrorism,as it is the regimes that nurture them. As my Commander in Chief told the American people september 14th, 2001, on nationwide tv, that we would remove terrorists and any regime that harbors them...He is as good as his word. How refreshing!!

Never forget September 11.2001,ever.

Wvit, you asked, "Why is it the place of America to go into a country half a world away and root out a government that has never attacked us? You have to remember that it wasn't America in the first Gulf War, it was the United Nations. Almost the whole world was with us.

As a country, we love our freedom to this level and more. We would fight for our freedom to go thru airports without receiving all those extra REMs, 2 hours before the flight. We like being able to go to werk, do our jobs, without having mutants fly aircraft into our offices. We have a problem with scum who would attack the US fleet in it's own harbors, anbd those of neutral ports (Pearl Harbor, and Yammen).
It just isn't done to us. Many of us Americans want more than protection from future attacks,we want utter total destruction of the ememy as it has shown itself. We are the like the class monitor who has been cornered by the class bullies..We are commin-out swinging! And we are bad to the bone. Personally, I look forward to the DNA results of the Afgahnistan caves and the Rep Gaurd compounds for evidence of my ememy's demise.
Until then,I want my troops right where they are, under thier current, capable leadership!

The campaign to remove the Taliban from power.
The campaign to remove Saddam from power.
The struggle of Israel to be free from Terrorism.
The creation of homeland security.
And for sure something else I have forgotten?
All are brought about by the same entity, Some
people dont see the connection. and then some
people dont look because they are afraid of what
they will find. Its easier to ignore and convince
oneself that only what they can see is reality.

The war against terrorism will be like not other war we have ever fought.

Who's to say what is the right or wrong thing to do, or what will work or not. Only time will tell.

We all know what happens when we do nothing.

Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair may end up being the heros or villians of all this and they certainly are not trying to win any popularity contests.

They could possibly have the convictions to do they they think is right, to fight terrorism.

Re: Picture This

Anyone who thinks our soldiers need our full support, need not read this. Those that think we went into this strange, evil land for some perverse reason other than those specified before we fired a shot, read on...The minds that can concieve such horrors, are not fit to breathe my plannet's air!!!!!!!!!!

US Marines moved into the southern Iraqi town of Shatrah today to recover the body of a dead comrade which had been hanged in the town square, officers said.
Hundreds of troops were dispatched on the operation after intelligence reports indicated the body of a dead American, who was killed in a firefight last week, had been paraded through the streets and hanged in public.

"We would like to retrieve the body of the marine but it is not our sole purpose," said Lieutenant-Colonel Pete Owen, of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

Military sources said another part of the operation was to arm local militias to fight against members of the ruling Baath party loyal to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Shatrah is some 40km north of Nasiriyah, where Iraqi forces have been harassing US supply lines and putting up tough resistance for more than a week.

U.S. Marines were sent to rescue wounded members of the 507th Maintenance Company on March 23, the day the Fort Bliss unit was attacked in Iraq, but nine of the Marines who took part in the rescue effort were killed and eight others are missing, Pentagon officials said Sunday.

Meanwhile, efforts by the Red Cross to secure access to the American POWs have not succeeded, officials said Monday.

U.S. military officials also confirmed that the four bodies discovered a few days ago in shallow graves are of American troops, but have still not determined the branch of the military in which the troops served, much less their names.

"They have not been identified yet," Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charles Owens, spokesman for U.S. Central Command, said Sunday from Doha, Qatar.

Owens also said Iraqi paramilitary forces known as Fedayeen were involved in the attack against the 507th Maintenance Company that left two of the 507th soldiers dead, four wounded, five captured and eight missing.

Sunday is the first time U.S. military officials revealed that Marines conducted a search-and-rescue operation to recover the wounded Army soldiers. All but one of the missing Marines was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, from Camp Lejeune, N.C.

A U.S. Mortuary Affairs team was sent to investigate the site of the graves near Nasiriyah, which is in the general area where the attack occurred.

"The Iraqi paramilitary or irregular forces includes the hit squads and the Fedayeen that are loyal to Saddam Hussein," Owens said Sunday. "They are the ones that attacked the maintenance supply convoy." Coalition commanders said the Fedayeen were trying to cut the American supply lines reaching back to Kuwait.

Among the 507th's wounded are Spc. James Grubb of El Paso, and Cpl. Damien Luten of Indianapolis. Luten was shown in widely distributed photographs last week with a teddy bear tied to his stretcher as he was being taken to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.

He told his mother, in a story published in the Indianapolis Star on Sunday, that a group of Marines saved him and some other members of the 507th. "A couple of guys got shot up pretty bad," he told her.

A memorial service was held Sunday near Checkpoint Charlie south of Najaf for the two members of the 507th who were killed when their convoy made a wrong turn and drove into an area controlled by the Saddam loyalists. Spc. Jamaal Addison, 22, of Atlanta, and Pfc. Howard Johnson, 20, of Mobile, Ala., were killed.

"One week ago, things went terribly wrong," said the chaplain, Capt. Scott Koeman. Consoling the troops, he said, "Death comes hand in hand with war."

Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, with the U.S. Central Command, said Fedayeen have changed in and out of uniform, used civilians, including children, as human shields, and were forcing Iraqi regular troops to fight on threats of death. U.S. troops who are moving toward Baghdad have run into strong resistance from these Iraqi paramilitary fighters.

Relatives of the Fort Bliss soldiers who are missing or are POWs said it's hard to deal with not knowing what has become of their loved ones.

"Because the Red Cross has not been able to get in there, we don't know how they're doing," said Claude Johnson, father of Spc. Shoshana Johnson, 30, of El Paso, one of the POWs. "I know she's alive from the videotape and pictures that were shown, but I wish I knew more."

The International Committee for the Red Cross reported on its Web site Sunday that heavy bombing shook its offices in Baghdad. The Red Cross has been trying to gain access to the POWs since news of their capture aired last week.

The Iraqi government videotaped the 507th soldiers who were captured and also showed what were reported to be the bodies of U.S. soldiers. High-ranking U.S. military officials who viewed the tape said it was possible that the soldiers were executed after attempting to surrender.

Re: Picture This

It wasn't all to long ago I was uneasy about this action in Iraq. I actively debated against it in this very forum.

wvit100, I'm not one to flock with popular belief and automatically go with the masses. On whole, I'm not a leader or a follower, but instead am somewhat of a maverick.

The turning point for me personally happend while listening to General Colin Powell's address to the United Nations. One point was made that was logical and relevant.
The need to rid the world of Saddams weapons of mass destruction (WMD)is relevant and part of a broad approach against a war on terrorism. Simply put, the candy store for a terrorist operation to purchase WMD lies in Iraq and Saddam is more than a willing merchant for these weapons. This is a legitimate concern to our national defense. Certainly after 9/11, to err on the side of being more aggressive with known enemies is a sound policy.

An additional point has to be made. Beyond a shadow of doubt,Saddam is a terrible, bad person. Since no one on this whole playground we call Earth has the guts, will or means to deal with this bully except for US, why not? It makes me feel proud that we are able and willing to do the world a favor again. Again, to do nothing, would be as criminal as supporting him.

Another point. I'm thouroughly convinced that if it wasn't for the disgusting actions by some in the opposing political party, that this would be better recieved. Instead of supporting this countrys best interests, it has become evident to me that some democratic leaders would rather have a complete failure in this action and any other action, domestic or foreign. For no other reason then to be back in control again.

My own personal opinion is that this is the beginning of 20 or more years of war and terror. It did not start with US in Iraq. It started on 9/11. I'm terrified that because so many have gotten such an early start protesting our actions, that we will win the first one or two battles (Afganistan, Iraq)but end up losing the war against all of our many enemies. I'm afraid that we are doomed to fail by the very ignorance of and special interests by some in the left wing of our government.

Another point. We're in, so we have to win. This isn't the time to cry over spilt milk. This world as we know it and all the freedoms that we've definately taken for granted is firmly at stake.

To use a line from flower power central, "Give peace a chance". The fact is Saddam was given 12 years of peace. He abused and squandered them.
At some point, after careful consideration of all the consequences, one may come to the conclusion that war is the quickest way to peace since 9/11. :(

wvit100, come join US. We need you with US, because we're in this togeather. Feel good that we are fighting an enemy that hasn't any regard for innocent human life.
I'll have to admit that I feel so good about what we're doing, I feel good happy paying $2.10 for a gallon of gas! It's become part of my own personal sacrifice to the effort, as minor as it is.
