Pictures of an old Johnson, what did I find?

Saw this while I was at a training school for the USCG.

It is an opposed 2 cylinder, had a gas tank mounted to it, and the exhaust appeared to come out the back under the tank with three outlet pipes. Didn't see a model number or horsepower rating.

I took these shots with my camera phone so I apologize for the lower quality of the pictures. IMG00286.jpgIMG00285.jpgIMG00284.jpg

Im pretty sure that it is a 1922, or close to that. Someone more experienced with this vintage may be able to pinpoint it for you.

MK "A" school in Yorktown? The bricks look vaguely familiar. No idea about the motor though.

Yep, that kinda looks like an old A model to me. Those were typically 2 1/2 to 3 horse motors.

Looks a little large to be an A - maybe a K? The model number is on the rope sheave plate, but I can't quite make it out in the photo.

According to what I find, the K model was produced in 1928 and 1929, producing some 7.1hp

Year Model
1928 K-40
1929 K-45

The model numbers are usually stamped on that part of the rope sheave, up between the top two
screws in this particular photo. It looks as though they may be worn off.

That's exactly where it was. :)

Chinewalker, I didn't realize that was where the model number was, otherwise I would gotten a picture of that too. I have another school there in April, so I will bring my good camera and see if I can get better pictures.

It was interesting to look at. Really cool now to realize it's at least 80 years old now.
