pilot hole not "spraying"

Hi: newbie here. Started my
dt9.9 suzuki yesterday after a few years non-use. Started up ok, but the water didn't exactly "spray" out of the pilot hole like the manual says it is supposed to do---rather it kinda "dripped". The water discharge hole "sprayed" after a minute or so of running though.

Just wondering if I have to change the impeller or something, or is the cooling system ok if the pilot hole is not exactly "spraying" but rather "dripping/spitting".

Thanks much.

I would replace the impeller and thermostat if it has set up that long just to be sure they are working properly

Re: pilot hole not "spraying"

Thank you so much. I guess that is what I will do. Is there a site here that can quide me in changing out the impeller? My engine is DT 9.9, 2-cycle.

I see 4 nuts on the lower unit, I assume that I will need to remove them to remove the lower unit, but then what?

Not afraid to turn a wrench, but it would be great if someone could provide me with the guidance to do the job right.

Thanks again.

I am not familiar with that motor but any outboard maintenance would be easier with a manual if you plan on doing it yourself.
You can keep looking online and hoping some one that has one like yours will answer your question, or buy a manual for yours.

Spray the 4 bolts with some WD40 and let it sit overnight, then slowly loosen them, making sure you don't snap one off ... you need to release the gear link at the back of the lower unit, you can download the part list on brownspoint.com and see where it is located, then you drop the lower unit and replace the impeller it is pretty straight forward ... just make sure you put the new impeller in exactly as the old one was sitting in the housing .....
