Pin hole leak in gas tank

I have a 1994 25hp Johnson and a standard 6 gallon metal gas tank. The tank has the handle on the top of the tank for carrying and 2 steel plates on each side of the handle to wrap any extra gas hose you have. One of those steel plates came off and there is a small pin hole where it was factory welded to the tank. Is that pin hole possibly robbing my engine of good fuel pressure and inturn power?

SHould'nt hurt the pressure as all tanks have pressure reliefs on them, but for fire safety reasons, buy a new tank.

The tank is vented and should not be under pressure when running. You could run it without a cap on it, if you wanted to.

A dab of JB Weld will fix the hole.

Oh yeah, that reminds me I gotta get out there and use some JB to fix a giraffe. Don't ask. Oh well, ask. It is a kid's toy.

Your local Schucks/Napa auto parts store should have metal gas tank repair kits, they are generally used for cars/trucks, but I dont see why it wouldnt work in your situation. Although it might be a little excessive for a pin hole.

Bassman, Clean up the hole area with a bit of sandpaper to get to bare metal, wipe with acetone and put a bit of marinetex or JBWeld on the hole. If you do not have that stuff available, buy a new plastic tank (on sale for $20)

Personally and for safeties sake I would just invest in a new tank for what it costs.
