I am rebuilding my tilt/trim on my 225 Johnson, 1995. I have removed the retaining rings, have the engine on the trailer lock. I have sprayed the pins w/ penetrating oil and was able to tap the top pin back and forth maybe
1/4". I am not able to remove top or bottom pin. I have been driving it hard w/ lump hammer and steel punch. Any ideas? Should I heat it?
thanks for any help,
biga

There are no problems just solutions, use a torch and heat around the pin!!

Re: pin removal for tilt/trim

The_Wheeler, I have an "87" that had the same problem this past spring.
Believe me, WD-40, heat and a can of compressed air held upside down for cold did the trick. Just be carefull you don't mushroom the pins by using to small of a punch while driving.

1) spray W-40 let sit for 20 min.
2) Heat until the other end is hot to the touch.(WD-40 should be smoking)
3) Tap pin while still hot and then spray WD-40.
4) Now use the upside down air can to really cool it down and hit the pin forcefully alternating on both ends.

You might have to use this procedure twice or three times, but it worked for me.
