Pinion bearing install

1987 Johnson 90 v4
Quick question. Does the pinion bearing seat automatically when installing? Seloc does mot specify. I know the bearing has a slight taper that leads me to believe that it'll stop where it should.

As I said, the OMC service manual. The procedure shows using OMC special tools to install that bearing to get it to the right depth.

I just pound them in with the biggest hammer on my workbench !

I also ignore the bit about having to hit them on the numbered side too----No idea why a manual would say that you have to have the numbers in the right way !

Can't do anything right now since my knee locked up and blew out....thanks for all the help so far....still looking for a downloadable omc servive manual.

Actually I have used boiling water to heat aluminum housings and put bearings in a freezer.----------They usually fall right in place.------------Done this on stainless bearings where I put bearings in hot water to install them on a shaft.----------These bearings are precision and about $10,000 each so no hammer is used !!!
