Piston help.

I'm jumping into my first motor rebuild and need help selecting the correct piston.

The motor is a 2001 35hp Johnson.

I'm seeing aftermarket pistons only go up to 1998. However, comparing piston part numbers on Johnson's website, shows the 98 and 2001 having the same part number(#0437219). I'm assuming they are the same piston?

Which leads me to believe I'd be ok ordering from here part number 35-3111P2? From the sites part number I'm guessing those are Wiseco pistons?

Re: Piston help.

I'll update and say they are not the right pistons. I have three of them sitting here and the bore on them is 3.2070, which is way too big for just about any 35 hp model. I'm not too sure what model of motor these are for b/c I went through the Johnson/Evinrude site comparing part numbers and they are all the same piston on 35hp 3 cylinder models.

Pretty neat looking pistons, though.

have you contacted any of the salvage yards listed in the top secret file at the beginning of this forum?

Re: Piston help.

They only made this engine several years and no one makes a aftermarket piston for it at this time. The only thing offered is a OEM .030 which the original # is 0437282 but supersedes to 5006700 and a STD.part #0437219 with supersedes to 5006698..

Thank you for the help.

The problem I ran into with ordering... well, I'll just leave it alone until things are squared away. However, I'll be ordering the .030 over pistons from Evinrude/Johnson.

I know I could have just picked up a used power head, but being my first go around with an outboard I'm enjoying going through everything and learning what I can. I suppose ordering things and knowing who to order from is part of the process.

I have plenty of friends with boats, but if you ask them about anything mechanical they speak as if it's some sort of black magic.

I hate not being able to offer much help on this forum, but I've learned it's better to sit, shut up and listen, than to open your mouth about things you know little about.
