Piston slap?

My engine (90, 90 HP Johnson) has been diagnosed with piston slap, among other things. It runs but knocks. Was told it is precursor to major engine failure. There was some scoring on one cylinder wall and the piston moved excessively within that cylinder.

Should I "park it" until I get around to having it fixed. If I use it, is it a high probability that more severe damage will be done?

jeepers,

If you have scoring now, it's the beginning of the end.

As it is now, you may be able to get away with a relatively inexpensive rebuild. If you run it, you stand a very good chance of "ventilating the block". Then it's REAL expen$ive.

Re: Piston slap?

djohns,

Thanks for the reply. Relatively inexpensive? Can you give me a ballpark figure, with the understanding of course that there might be a number of variables involved? A range would help.

Thanks
