Hey guys
Well I have a 85hp johson 1980 according to the tag ,
question is would a 60-70's era 85hp evinrude/johnson piston fit or are they different in size as the 80s one is a good motor apart from the one piston showing signs of damage.
Are I able to switch out the piston from my other motor thats down in 2 cylinders (60-70s) or just go find a new piston set,any help is appreciated as I'd love to get it running again nicely
Cheers steve

Forgot to add tag for the 80's,other motor hasn't got any visible tag (possible mount change according to previous owner)

No, the 1980 uses a 3.5 inch bore, and all the 85 from 1968 thru 1978 have a 3 3/8 inch bore

So I've noticed when I was searching for another part for a different motor it has the same piston as my 80's one so using that should work do you think , it a 175hp 1983 johnson, bores not scored either (thank goodness) .
Kind of hoping it's a go as would love to get it running easily as we have over a month of waiting for the bits to show here(covid strikes again).

All of the Crossflow V6s were just 1 1/2 V4s and most did indeed have the 3.5" Bore, an exception were the post 1979 235hp and prop rated 175. These had a 3.62" bore.
What exactly are you trying to do, find a used Piston to replace a melted one?

Are you going to re-ring the other 5 cylinders? Have you measured them for Wear? 2 Strokes wear differently than 4 Strokes, and need to be measured in more than just at the Top
