I have a mercruiser alpha one on a celebrity cuddy 21 ft. my current prop on the boat says 14x19p aluminum. the prop has seen its better days. i would like to find out if there would be a huge difference if i replaced it w a 14 1/4 x 20P stainless steel. will the new prop size and pitch make a significant change for the good or for the bad for the performance??? any suggestions please? thanks a bunch!

Re: PITCH PROP questions???

I need to know the year, make and model of the boat and motor, as well as the HP and gear ratio. And what is the hull form, either flat bottom all the way to deep vee. And the approximate number of people and what you use your boat for. Then we can decide on the correct blade geometry for the boat and figure out will a 20" pitch work.

There is a "sticky" at the very top of this forum titled "Read This First". Please read it. Without any performance data from your current prop there is no way we can guess any better than you can.

Re: PITCH PROP questions???

its a 1989 celebrity mercruiser cuddy cabin. a deep "V" hull type boat. alpha one 5.0 engine as it says on it. do not know what horse power or gear ratio. 8people max and used for leasure boating, fishing, cruising, lounging, etc. no skier though it has a ski hook. will there really be a big diference between a 20 pitch than a 19pitch??? thanks

19 to a 20 isn't a huge difference but you might get 3-5mph extra. That being said, increasing the pitch may cause your boat to take a little longer getting on plane. A stainless prop is a lot more efficient then an aluminum prop because it has less flex but an aluminum prop is a lot less forgiving if you smacl it off anything.
