what size socket do i need for a merc alpha one gen 2?
i'm pretty sure it's a hex socket, but as i'm at work i cant se it, and want to pick it up on the way home.

If it's the same as an alpha, then I'm pretty sure it is a half inch hex, or allen wrench.

I got mine out with a 1/2 inch allen wrench. But you have to be careful. It is not an allen headed bolt its like a star head with 8 sides. Sorry cant look at mine because boat is still buried till the weekend! Grrrrrr! They sell the tool on ebay and it is a hinge pin tool look it up and you can see what I mean.

There is a Mercrusier specific tool that is supposed to be used, but from what I understand, even the pros use the 1/2" allen. Some even use an old cold chisel. Apparently they are usually made with 1/2" stock.

so is it a hex, or it it an 8 sided "star"? a hex will not fit in an eight sided star, but a 1/2 drive ratchet will.

I have the correct tool and I don't know how many ridges it has... I just know the 1/2" allen will work.
