I had my lower unit off my Force 125 hp,
Mod 1251X7B
Ser 3795

As I was trying to lift it up for re-installation, I managed to pull off the little collar that slips over the splines at the top of the vertical drive shaft.

Now I don't know which way it goes back on: Flat side up, or groove side up? See pix.

Groove up, it is actually for a rubber boot to fit in. However, don't worry, you don't have to have the boot. Just be sure to put alot of anti-seaze or grease on the splines before reinstallation. If you put it in dry it can get stuck easily.

Look up inside the rubber boot might still be in there.
If it is it can stop the drive from going all the way up.J

Thanks, guys. Almost put it in wrong. And I could not get the shaft in, so I'll check tomorrow for the above-noted little boot.
