Have an 1986 fourwinns 195 horizon cuddy with 3.7lx 190hp. Boat has trolling plate on stern drive(i am smart enough to run with it up btw). Currently running a turning point legacy 14.25x21 prop. Boat does not want to come up on plane hardly at all. My question is could the trolling plate be causing some kind of for lack of knowledge "turbulence" and cause this? No the prop has not been runaground nicked or dinged in any way. Just bought it. I appreciate any offers of advice or comments

Re: plane question

No trolling plates should not effect a hole shot unless the spring or tension rate is wacked...A 21p prop might be just a bit over the top for that boat....If you could post your speed at the top of the rpm band it could illuminate ant issues..;)

Re: plane question

sorry if it takes to long to reply, i drive for a living and am only home on weekends. anyway, with the 21p prop i run about 42mph @3900rpm. I also have a 17p and have tried it as well with no improvement. 17p is 37mph@4700rpm. just for giggles im gonna take the trolling plate off and see what happens.

Re: plane question

I think with that combination you should be crowding 50 and at least be in the reccomended rpm range.I think I would give the motor a physical.Be sure the throttle plates open all the way.timing is set right and advances all the way.
Check compression. Is the bottom clean and smooth?
