Plastic line going back to mechanical fuel pump??

I have a plastic, looks to be an overflow fuel line, going back to the mechanical fuel pump on my OMC GM 350 motor. This line came off a Rochester Quad. Now that I put on a Edelbrock 600 cfm where does that plastic line connect to? Do I need it, can I plug it up or is there a connection on my new Edelbrock 600 cfm.

Yes you need it. It is a line from the fuel pump. If the fuel pump takes a dump instead of it pumping gas into your bilge the fuel pump will pump the gas up that tube to the carb and dump it into the motor for safety reasons. If you have a marine Edelbrock 600 there should be a port on the side (some where near the top) that goes straight into the throat of the carb. Hook it up there.

if fuel is going through that line, does that mean the pump is bad??

bluestx: according to my manual, yes it does. Shoudn't be any fuel under proper running conditions, and it's only meant for safety reasons due to fuel pump failure.

well, that sucks. the last time I had it out (wed) there was fuel flowing through that line, pretty steadly at times, especially at higher rpms. can the mechanical pump be changed for an electric pump??

Thats great! Now I know and wont blow up. Found the port on the Edelbrock and now working on getting the two sides connected. Thank you f_inscreenname .

bluestx <br />It can but why bother 350 fuel pumps are cheep and easy to find.
