plastic link to tilt cylinder wire keeps breaking

My motor has the manually controlled hydraulic assist cylinder for tilt. The plastic connector on the end of the wire that attaches to the tilt lever keeps breaking. The end of the plastic connector that snaps over the metal ball on the lever keeps splitting. Anything I can do to stop that from happening? I wish the part was made of metal!

It's also really finicky to get it adjusted properly. For example, if it's off even a little I basically have to hang off the front of the motor to try and tilt it. Kind of hilarious to watch probably.

Really, unless you have the same kind of set up as mine this is probably pretty cryptic.
