Hey all, Australia here!!!!! I have just finished restoring my 17ft monark windsor 135 hp v6 mercury outboard with hydraulic steering running on a jacking plate which has taken me about 12 mths to complete its also had a new marine ply transom 40mm thick and new tassie oak stringers and floor has been replaced it sits really well in the h2o . I took her out for its first test and everything was going fine as i picked up lots of speed, the boat suddenly grabbed on the port side and almost rolled and flipped it over, lucky for me i could see it coming as the bow dipped port side so backed off straight away!!!! anyone got any ideas what this could be? please and thankyou 261587_10150375869803102_766093101_10415157_7106532_n.jpg426081_10150869438843102_766093101_12755233_769745917_n.jpg377772_10150684112143102_766093101_12177253_1080377075_n.jpg419139_10150739447858102_766093101_12353310_1318366151_n.jpg264738_10150375869603102_766093101_10415151_8236762_n.jpg

I was going to say trim tabs, but I do not think you have them. Another possibility is problem with steering. Do you have any slack in your steering? I am not sure if it can be overpowered, so the hull gets completely out of the water and then falls on the heavy (port) side?

Check the steering set up. I think you are losing control of the engine suddenly for a run like that to wind up as a sharp turn, which would result in 'grabbing' on the port side.

Get the steering squared away. You're losing control of your engine.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, i dont think that the problem is with the steering has been bleed properly and there is no airbubbles in the oil at all. if you go to the engine and try and turn it by hand there is no way you can move it , even if you are at the steering wheel and someone holds the motor you cant stop it from turning. I was thinking maybe its the zinc tab? they say put them straight if its hydraulic steering so i will move it to the right some more, i will try it in reverse on the weekend and see if it goes port or starboard slowly while the motor is straight, when it happend it felt like it was in slow motion and started to lean slowly to the port side but as i was going hard it seemed like it was happerning so fast that i was going to flip it. "its hard to explain on here, im thinking i might set up my helmet cam at the back of the boat and see if i can see the problem".....
