Hi everyone, I have a 2002 honda BF50A on my 16 ft maxum. I've had the carbs rebuilt a year ago. Recently I've noticed that the oil was getting diluted with gas. I've done a compression test on the motor fully warmed and got 150psi on #1, 152psi on #2, and 151psi on #3. I've replaced the old T-stat with a 162 degree F T-stat. The motor seems to run warmer now and that seemed to help significantly with the oil getting diluted however the oil even though it looks better it still smells a little like gas. I've also synced the carbs this past weekend. The motor idles at 950/1000 rpms but its not really smooth it seems to shake a little and sputter slightly, not sure if this is normal. Also today I had it out on the pond and I noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust port when the motor was idling and it also smelled like gas sort of. Any idea what could be causing this?

Motor running much better

Motor running much better

Just want to give everyone some insight on what I did. I replaced the plug wires/coil packs on my BF50A. I also replaced the head gasket on the motor. While I had the cylinder head out I removed valve one at a time and lapped the valve and valve seat. Reassembled the moter, balanced the carbs and turned the carb pilot screw out 2 1/2 turns (Seloc states 1 turn out) and the motor now idles nice and smooth.
