Hi everyone, I have a brand new Glastron GT225 with a 5.0 EFI Volvo Penta rated at 270 hp. The stock prop is a 14.5 x 19 alum. WOT is about 4900 - 5000 and the manufacturer says it should be 4600-5000. Boat performs great.

I want to go SS. I have read and heard so many things over the years like "automatically go up/down 2 numbers when you go from Alum to SS".

Please help me with this decision. if I am happy with how it runs now am i safe getting a 19 pitch SS prop or will i see a change in rpms that i need to compensate for?

thanks

If your happy with your current set-up and your able to reach max rpm then I would stick with what you have.
In the near future if you want more holeshot(depending what yours is like now?) Then maybe drop an 1" or 2" pitch but you will have to watch your rpms as they will likely increase?
Why do you want an SS anyways? They are pricey and less forgiving when it comes to lower units/outdrives..........Irv964

Your present max rpm and SPEED is really needed to tell best what your present prop is doing.(gps speed is best)
For that expensive investment you should try to find a dealer that will exchange props.Iboats has an exchange program for certain props.
SS can reduce rpm and increase speed some have more lift ,can increase hole shot, speed, and rpm.The experts may be able to suggest the best prop
but when going from al to ss can be a tricky call.

Welcome to the forum Minnesotajeff!
I'm not gonna ask you why you want a SS prop, that's your choice. I personally prefer them. steelespike pointed out the advantages. If it was my boat, and it was new, I'd say everything is probably still tight on that motor, & drive package, in a little while I'd expect it to wear in, & get loose, raising your rpm. As it is you are at the top of your rpm range, IMO a 19" pitch SS prop would work out fine, but you'll probably lose some rpm, and gain some speed. A prop exchange program would be advised, to be on the safe side, and I think iboats has one right here. Good Luck, Mike
