Hey, I am new to the whole 2stroke outboard thing. I recently purchased a 1967 Johnson 20 from a buddy for $200 he started it up and told me it was running rough and I could tell obviously. Figured I’d give it a try and clean the carb and do a few other things to try and get it running right. When I got it home I immediately realized it looks like there is a linkage missing from the rich-lean adjustment at least that’s what I think it is lol. Anyway is there a way I can still adjust it properly such as I don’t even know how to tell if it’s rich or lean right now. Any help would be amazing like I said I really don’t have a clue what I am doing but I’m trying I have experience working on small 4stroke engines but no outboards.

just pull the engine cover and adjust the top needle manually … if it settles down forget about it or order a link for 6$

you can always rig one up with a piece of clothes hanger and clips of the proper size

The part number for the arm is 308362. If you also need the valve arm, it is part number 204705 - pricey at $25 new. You can probably find a used one for a fraction of the cost.

by the way… turn the engine upside down and shake it…. I found my link for a MQ 9.5 down the the pit… maybe the previuous owner dropped it down there

try TIM's outboard for used parts

rich = counter clockwise lean clockwise tighten down collar nut after adjusting
