PLEASE HELP! 1979 Johnson 55HP lower unit compatibility

I was wondering if the lower unit from an 80's 50HP johnson would bolt on to my 1979. Specifically, a 1988, 50HP 20" shaft 14 spline. The specs seem to match up but I am not sure whether this would fit. Any help is much appreciated.

Or, if anyone can list which lower units from different engines would be compatible with mine, that would be even better.

Can I bump this? There is an auction ending on eBay and I was trying to get my boat running by next weekend for a family camping trip. Thank you for your help

i have a 1079 55 hp. can`t tel you if it will work . yo might try this site to . http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl. you will probabley need the year of both motors to know for sure . if there isent that menny years different then it might be possable . i have change a eletric shift to a mmanul . the eletric was 1972 and the manul shift was 1973 or 74 .

Go to outboardexchange and to used parts check there. They will lump them all into years and HP, the ones that fit up anyway.
