Please help... 3.0 making loud pinging.. rattle? Video link inside!!!!

Just started making this sound one day while on the lake. I never run it hard and hardly ever full speed. It happens in gear and in neutral. only in higher RPMs... can somebody help me? BTW I am the biggest newbie on here with boats.. This is my first boat and this started happening on my 6th trip out. Thank you Ill post a video when it uploads to youtube..

Hey sorry having to try to upload again on youtube... It sounds like a tooth may be broken and bouncing around. But having a hard time believing thats the problem because i baby this boat. Coming from the back of the engine, near the bottom... It has no rhythm to it. just like gears hitting at random... wish this video would upload ugh. I really want to know if its a simple fix or needs to go to the marina.

Almost sounds like starter is not fully disengaging, perhaps a bendix going bad. Only a guess on my part from the video.

I think that airshot hit it, it does sound like the starter to me aswell.

I would pull the exhaust elbow and check the exhaust shutter. cheap easy and makes that sound when the hole wallows out

First thing I thought of was the bendix sticking/partially engaged. BTW, racing the engine like that is a no-no. I realize you were doing it for the purpose of the video, but refrain from doing that anymore than absolutely necessary-especially in gear! I hope your drive was down in the "boating" position and not in the trailer position. That is REALLY hard on the u-joints!

Yes it was down.. it turned out to be the starter. Bought a new one and now its fine. The starter is only being held on by one bolt though. The smaller one is broken off inside.

that wont last long, need to pull the motor and have both of the broken bolts removed.And I would think the impeller was damaged from that much rpm and not enough water flow.
