84(i think) force 125 on a 84 bayliner capri

seemed to run ok at first. it started reved up and then back down and seemed to run fine. then some problems started to pop up. it would almost flood when idling for any amount of time and would bog down and not want to take off. I pulled the cover off and noticed gas pouring out.

carb rebuild kit fixed this. the floats appeared fine and I adjusted them to the half inch seated and 7/8 haning open. new needle and gaskets. no gas pouring out but still boggs down. very easy to flood, but always eventually starts.

I feel like im capable of tackling this, but I need some opinions and direction because im a little perplexed. boat was going about 45 and I couldnt get over 1500-2000 rpm today. Is this a timing problem or a carb problem? I have a timing light, but have never had the opportunity or need to use it. I am pretty sure that it is getting gas. I just dong understand what it causing the problem.

I would appreciate some feeback guys.. thanks

Your float level is too high and/or your idle mixture is too rich.

Adjust float level holding the carb upside down, the TOP of the float is now bottom, close to the carb body, adjust the float such that the float top is perfectly parallel with the carb/bowl machined flat surface.

Initial idle mixture at 1 1/2 turns out from LIGHTLY seated, adjust to best idle speed PLUS 1/8 turn while in forward gear on the water. Adjusting while on a garden hose will be too lean once you launch the boat.
