Hello Everyone, I have read over numerous topics. Here is the deal I have a 85 force motor on a 1984 Bayliner Trophy. I have owned the boat for a month LOVE IT! Problem is when i start it it idles ok but when i engage it in gear it stalls. I choke it and start it again. The guy i bought it from rebuilt it last year. When I keep it running it runs great wide open 35 mph. Sometimes it will idle and go ok. Anyone have any ideas, should i rebuild the fuel pump. Carbs look really clean and i drained the gas and did the plugs.

Please Help and thanks for letting me join.

Hello Taekdown and welcome to iboats. Sounds like a fuel problem. Chances are your carbs and fuel pump need rebuilding. I do mine every three years now and there is a night and day difference in mainly the idle after I have done it. You can try something real quick and see if it helps. On the upper part of the carburators above the choke plate is a mixture screw. Slowly turn this clockwise while counting the turns until it is lightly seated (To much pressure will damage the tip of the screw). Should be somewhere around 1 1/2 to 3/4 turns. Write down this number and turn the screw counter clockwise till it comes out. Remove the spring and the screw. Take some carb cleaner with the small straw attachement and blast it inside that hole a couple of squirts. Put the screw and spring back in and set it to the same amount of turns out it was originally. See if that helps improve the performance at idle.

OK Guys please bare with me. I looked everywhere for that screw the only one on the carb that comes out is a screw with a pin size hole all the way through it. It is bottomed out alleady when i checked it. I checked the bulb and it seems fine other than a little soft. I took it out and flushed it and it does not blled back through. I checked the suction off of the pump and it is sucking but at only 2 psi at idle. I am a car guy and qwant to thank you all for helping me on my first boat repair.
