Re: please help....blew out the manifold

as i understand it the connecting rod is actually within the block....this problem occured at the intake manifold. i know being that you cannot see it visualy you cannot be certain but couldn't it just have been a ignition of gas within the manifold as a result of cylinder not firing that caused the blow out?

Holmesa my frien', it sounds like what has happened to your engine iz it has throwed a rod. That's a major malfunction. If that's the case, the best and easiest solution is to replace the engine. It may or may not be repairable.

c/6
Hooty

Re: please help....blew out the manifold

The manifold is a matched piece of the block. To replace the manifold you must replace the block. I have heard of people welding the manifold back together.

Check the garbage that came through the hole - it will be more that just the parts of the manifold. You will probably find parts of your connecting rod and wrist pin for that cylinder - Let me guess - number 3 cylinder?

Don't throw your current engine away - take it apart and confirm what is wrong - then sell the parts.

Good luck - I have a 135 head with the same problem that I will eventually sell for parts.
