Ok, to start off, we have a 1990 50hp Evinrude VRO. Model No, VE50BELESR, with a manual assist tilt/trim pump (img 1). I think thats what it is called. Anyway, next to the motor is a little latch that shows an image of the motor up, and one of the motor down (img 2). Attached to this latch is a cable that runs down the mounting plate and threads into the hydraulic pump. The threads are stripped and torn beyond repair (img 3), and there is fluid leaking out of the top. As it stands, it is usable as is, you just have to strap the motor to the mounting plate so it doesnt bounce. Then in tow, I strap it to a transom saver and its fine (img 4). I just have to grab the motor by hand to raise and lower the unit when I go into or come out of the water. However... when I lower it for use, the prop still points about 15-20 degrees up and I cant plane out (img 5). I just bought this and this is my first experience with this type of tilt/trim unit. Can I replace the threaded insert? Where can I find a new cable? How can I get the cylinder to lower even further so that I can plane out on the water until I can replace this stuff? And does anyone have a rough estimate? I thought about going electric, but wow...not for over $800!!!
